The photograph shows the importance of regular testing of an electrical installation. During 2018 I found that the main electrical earth was not connected at a retail shop on Lord St, Southport.
Both of the earth cables are connected into insulated connections. It took approximately five minutes to remake the joints, connecting these into a Henley block and the main earth connection issue properly rectified.
On certain occasions by having a qualified electrician inspect an electrical installation a potential danger can be avoided.
It is recommmended a domestic, commerial installation is tested and a report obtained every 5 years. An industrial or caravan installation is tested every 3 years. In certain circumstances, eg a caravan being sub-let the test should be carried out every 12 months.
These reports are very favoured if you are renting a property for business use. By law, it is not essential, but insurance companies usually request them. If an accident was to happen to a person occupying your commercial property with the electrical system being at fault and a valid condition report is not owned then that person could take legal action against you. The risk is just not worth it.
The EICR report includes data on wiring corrected, checking the safety and operation. These report's vary considerably from PAT tests as EICR's contain an in-depth report on the fixed wiring and electrical components of the building and not the appliances.
The final report consists of clearly documented, measurements, values and results taken during the inspection. We will then advise on the work needed to get the system to a safe and usable condition.
Heres a list of some electrical installation services I provide to domestic customers in Southport and the surrounding areas
There is no law on how often these reports need to be carried out. There are guidelines, which would be sensible to adhere to.
