Electrical fuse board upgrades and installations in Southport

STRAP LINE NEEDED

JA Kirby Electrical Services recommends that you have any old fuse boards upgraded to a new 17th edition consumer units, which sounds a mouthful but it is, in essence, the safest electrical fuse board for your home, providing you with many additional security features.

Some homes in the UK still have old-style fuse boards with outdated fuses installed. These offer very little or no protection against electrocution.

Before replacing the fuse board, I inspect your existing install and advise if any extra work will be needed to get the new fuse board up to standard and in line with current regulations. I will rewire fuse boards, install new MCB’s and RCD’s on the existing boards.

Any new consumer unit replacement will naturally be installed to current British electrical standards.

Here are some benefits to carrying out this type of work:

Increase Your Home’s Energy Efficiency

When you replace your consumer unit, you will also be increasing the energy efficiency of your home. Not only do high-performance electrical appliances benefit the environment, but they also save you money on your utility bills.

Fitted with modern 17th edition units are mini circuit breakers (MCB’s) which protect individual circuits within your home. Just in case of an electrical surge or fault.

Improve Your Property’s Safety Standards

Non-compliant consumer units risk the electrical safety of your home. By updating your fuse board, you will benefit from increased safety standards.

A modern consumer unit is fitted with a residual-current device (RCD) which provides additional protection to your property.

With improving the safety standards, you are complying with electrical regulations and of your property, so, therefore, can rest assured in the knowledge that your electrical system is as safe as it can be.

Are You Complying With Current Regulations

Are You Complying With Current Regulations

Many homes throughout the country have consumer units that are not compliant with current regulations. Having a new fuse board or consumer unit to give them their proper name installed will guarantee that you adhere to electrical wiring regulation requirements.

Please consider that when replacing or upgrading your existing fuse boards to meet current regulations the following work may need to be carried out. It may not but always best to mention.

  • Upgrading the main earthing conductor
  • Update of the main tails
  • Full testing and inspection (Part P)
  • Upgrade of the primary protecting conductor

What can you do to check if your current fuse board is out of date? The following things are common indicators that an upgrade is needed:

  • Does the fuse board have a wooden backboard?
  • Does your fuse board have rewirable or push-button circuit breakers? If this is the case, they are outdated, and the fuse board could do with being replaced.
  • Does your current fuse board have ceramic fuse holders or inadequate access to fuses?
  • Does your fuse board contain an RCD trip switch? Most up to date consumer units will include two or more RCD's which provide you with additional protection.
